Glasgow Schools Cross Country

The Glasgow Secondary School Cross Country Championships will take place on Friday 24th February 2012 at Netherpollock Playing Fields with the first race commencing at 10.30am. We are looking for volunteers who would be available to help with this event; setting up the course, marshalling, finish area, results team, presentations. This event cannot take place without the help of volunteers and so, if you are available and interested in helping please contact Lindsay MacNeill at lindsay.macneill@tga.org.uk as soon as possible.

2012 School Games

The School Games are taking place in London from 6 - 9 May.

The athletics competition will take place in the Olympic Park on Wednesday 9 May and is for Under 17 athletes.

All competitors need to attend for the 4 days. The team will travel on Sunday 6 May and return after the competition on Wednesday 9 May. It is likely that the team will not arrive in Scotland until late on Wednesday evening.

The competition is taking place during the SQA exams therefore athletes, parents, coaches and schools need to consider whether or not a selected athlete will accept the invitation to attend. Arrangements are being made for travelling athletes to sit exams in a local school.

The exams which are taking place during the competition are: Tuesday 8 May - Geography and Philosophy, Wednesday 9 May -Music and Urdu, Thursday 10 May - French. It will not be possible for an athlete to sit the exams on Wednesday 9 May and to take part in the competition.

Selection will take place after the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships as the team has to be with UKA by the end of February.

Once again all potential athletes and their parents, coaches and schools need to discuss the difficulties of competing during the exam period.

INTERNATIONAL SELECTION POLICY STATEMENT

As a response to regular requests, the Scottish Schools’ Athletic Association, at its recent AGM, voted to post its International team selection criteria on its web site and in all Secondary Championship programmes.

The aim of this publication is to make it clear to all involved, the criteria considered by the selectors before announcing an International team, thus avoiding misunderstandings, misinterpretations and possible comments regarding our decisions. (Click for Statement)

PLEASE NOTE

Secondary schools must be affiliated to SSAA before entering athletes in our national championships. Entries received from unaffiliated schools will NOT be accepted and the athlete/s or team/s will be refused permission to compete in the event until the affiliation fee is received.
